The 'Lip$ha' LP has been called off, according to Wayne Coyne
Writing on Twitter earlier today (November 7), Coyne said that it was a “sad” situation but couldn’t tell fans why the project had been pulled. He wrote: “As of now …sadly there will be no Lip$ha…. I can’t say why… It is sad…”.
The unlikely collaborators had worked together before, both on Flaming Lips material and on Ke$ha’s 2012 album ‘Warrior’. Speaking in a Reddit AMA earlier this year, Coyne said of the singer: “She is a blast on all levels. She’s funny, she’s humble. She’s badass. She’s everything. She’s awesome. We’re actually already working on an album with her. It’s called Lip$ha.”
The Flaming Lips shocked fans recently by announcing that they were to split, but the Oklahoma-based band apparently changed their minds 18 minutes later. The news came via two tweets from the band’s official Twitter account, which have both since been deleted. The first, as Rolling Stone reports, said: “We have sad news. We’ve broken up…”.
As fans and media reacted to the shock news, a second Tweet appeared, reading: “lol just joking guys.” A spokesperson for the band confirmed that the first announcement was “not true”. A further tweet said: “That last announcement was a bit premature,” accompanied by a picture marking the band’s 30 year anniversary this year. Amid the confusion, singer Wayne Coyne tweeted from his personal account: “The Flaming Lips twitter has been hijacked!!!!”
