Amanda Palmer replaces Erykah Badu in NSFW Flaming Lips video – watch

The Dresden Dolls singer is naked in a bathtub in the promo for 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'

Amanda Palmer has replaced Erykah Badu in the Flaming Lips collaboration ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’.

The Dresden Dolls singer has taken the place of Badu on a version of the 1957 Ewan MacColl-penned folk song, which was later famously covered by Roberta Flack.

Palmer now features in a NSFW work video – scroll down to watch – for the track, which sees her naked in a bathtub.

Badu and The Flaming Lips‘ frontman Wayne Coyne fell out over an even more risqué treatment for the video earlier this year. The controversial clip showed Badu and her sister naked and in a bath of what appeared to be blood and semen.

It appeared online briefly before being removed a day later. Badu claimed that she felt “violated” by its contents and insisted that Coyne should have sent the video to her for approval.

Coyne responded to Badu’s comments in an interview with NME, claiming that she “knew what she was getting into”. He also suggested that Badu’s angry reaction to the video was merely a twisted show of affection. “When she said that to me, I took it as ‘I’m going to show you that the way I love you is that I’m going to scratch your face off and we’re going to go for it,'” he said.

Speaking on Twitter.com/fatbellybella, Badu wrote: “I never would have approved that tasteless, meaningless, shock motivated video… As a woman I feel violated and underestimated.”

Badu signed off from her extended rant by saying: “These things have been said out of necessity. And if you don’t like it you can KiSS MY Glittery ASS. O and Nayrok [her sister] told me to tell u to kiss her ass too.”
