They will also perform 'Happy Xmas [War Is Over]' together on NYE
The Flaming Lips have joined forces with the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band to record a version of ‘Atlas Eets Christmas’, which was originally released on the Flaming Lips‘ secret 2007 Christmas album.
The two acts will get together again for the Flaming Lips‘s New Year’s Freak Out No. 5, in Oklahoma City on December 31. Pitchfork reports that at midnight, Yoko Ono will sing ‘Happy Xmas [War Is Over]’ with the band. Visit AtlaseetsChristmas.com to listen to a stream of The Flaming Lips’ Christmas music.
The Flaming Lips‘ frontman Wayne Coyne recently spoke about the progress of the band’s collaboration with Nick Cave, stating they’ve already recorded one “really good” song together. The duo have been speaking about a hook-up since they both appeared at this year’s Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in May.
Coyne told Pitchfork that they’re planning to work on more material after Cave finishes touring later this year, adding: “I think we’ll get a good Nick Cave collection of songs with the Flaming Lips. We already have one really good one, so that seems like it’ll work out.”
