CHAIN REACTION: WILLIAM WALKS OUT ON JIM

WILLIAM REID has abandoned THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN's US tour...

WILLIAM REID (far right) has walked out on THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN‘s US tour after a shambolic Los Angeles gig last Saturday (September 12).

In an uncanny reprise of their early ’80s, feedback-laden shows which lasted 15 minutes on average before degenerating into riots, their gig at LA’s House Of Blues lasted only a few songs before the band walked off, apparently angered at Jim Reid’s (centre)drunken behaviour onstage.

The Mary Chain were only three dates into their US tour. The band, minus William, are now continuing their trek across America with dates booked until October 4. William had, according to sources, been talking about quitting the band for some time.

A JAMC spokesman in London confirmed there was an incident at the Los Angeles show which resulted in the band appearing without William Reid at the following night’s gig in San Juan Capistrano. “It would be inappropriate to comment at this stage until we have the full details. We’re waiting to hear what the long-term prognosis is,” he told NME.

Both Reid brothers have signed solo deals with Creation Records. William Reid’s solo album has already been recorded, but there are no plans for it to be released in the near future.
