Singer brings his solo album to the UK
Brandon Flowers played his first solo gig since the release of his solo album in London last night (September 8).
“You know how to make a boy feel good,” Flowers told the crowd, which included I Am Arrows‘ Andy Burrows and Mark Ronson, as he kicked off the show. “This is the first time we’ve played since the record came out, and we’re excited that you’re more familiar with the songs!”
Mainly sticking to ‘Flamingo’ songs, save for a synthed-up snatch of ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight?’, made famous by Elvis Presley, and Kim Carnes‘ ‘Bette Davis Eyes’, Flowers explained to the audience, who had entered a ballot to attend the gig, that his solo album may surprise them.
“I’m not afraid to say it, the album is a little more mild than what you’re used to,” he cautioned, “but there’s one song that is like that [The Killers‘ material], perhaps a little more to your tastes, it’s called ‘Jilted Lovers And Broken Hearts’.”
Flowers and his backing band, New Yorkers Ambulance Ltd, then tore into the song, with the audience singing along to every word despite the album only being available for three days.
After more songs from ‘Flamingo’, Flowers left the stage briefly, but gave a nod to his day job as he returned to play a stripped-down acoustic version of The Killers‘ ‘When You Were Young’, before thanking fans and leaving the stage for the final time.
Brandon Flowers played:

‘Bette Davis Eyes’
‘Jilted Lovers And Broken Hearts’
