Brandon Flowers: ‘Whether people accept it or not, The Killers are the best band in a long time’

Singer claims his band are underrated in new interview

Brandon Flowers has described The Killers as “the best band” in a “long time” in a new interview.

Flowers releases his second solo album ‘The Desired Effect’ this week (May 18), following on from 2010 solo debut ‘Flamingo’. Speaking to The Independent recently, the singer shared his view that the Las Vegas band are underrated.

“Whether the people want to accept it or not, we might be the best band in the last long time,” Flowers is quoted as saying. “I’d go up any night against just about any band that’s come out in the last 15 years. Not that it’s a competition, but I do feel sometimes people don’t have a grasp on what we’ve accomplished and what we’ve acquired.”

Flowers added, “Everyone should come see The Killers! We’re more than just a New Wave revival thing.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Flowers revealed that he keeps his facial hair shavings in a bag. He admitted: “I have a Ziploc bag full of hair. I’ll grow five or six days growth, make sure that the sink is dry, use an electric razor, catch it in the sink, and then I’m able to just scoop it into the bag!”

Flowers stated that he started collecting the hair after shaving off his beard and moustache that he sported during his band’s ‘Day & Age’ tour in 2008. “It’s a lot of hair!” he added. “But it’s compacted. And it doesn’t smell. It’s all black but about half way up you start to see some greys. I don’t know what to do with it yet. It means something.”

It has also been confirmed that Flowers has been working on new music with New Order.

Later this week, Brandon Flowers will head to the UK for a series of solo shows. This stint will include two gigs in London, as well as shows in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Edinburgh. See the full details below.
