The Killers: ‘We stole bassline for ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ from Bowie’

The band's frontman Brandon Flowers writes a track-by-track for the band's new greatest hits collection for NME

The Killers‘ Brandon Flowers has revealed he stole the bassline for their hit ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ from David Bowie.

Writing a track-by-track review of the band’s new greatest hits collection, ‘Direct Hits’, on NME.COM he reveals that the tracks bassline came from the 2002 ‘Heathen’ track ‘Slow Burn’.

“When that one was cooking I was really into U2’s ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind'”, he says of the track. “I thought that was an amazing comeback for them, and I was blown away by how many great songs were on that record. There’s an earnestness, spirit soul to U2, and I was trying to channel that. I wanted a song that stood up to those songs. We also took the bassline from a David Bowie song called ‘Slow Burn’, from ‘Heathen’, although enough time has probably passed now that I think he probably won’t sue us!”

Yesterday (November 8), The Killers‘ Ronnie Vannucci said that it’s time for the band to “take a breather”.

The drummer said that the band will take some time out after their performance at the MTV European Music Awards this weekend (November 10). “I think it will be a little while,” he said. “I don’t think it will take an unnaturally long time for us to get guys together. [But] it’s time to take a breather and ground out a little bit.”

He added: “I think everybody is looking forward to putting their feet up for a little while and having some normalcy.”

Flowers has already revealed that he will be working on a new solo album next year and in the new interview Vannucci said he’s set to start on the follow up to his Big Talk album, saying: “In 2011, I made a record, and I think I want to make another record. I’m already starting it. I like to keep moving. I love that notion of momentum. I think some of the guys are just going to chill out, keep writing probably, make sure to get some rest.”
