He has said that fans should look at the big screens at 8.30pm tonight for a special announcement
Pete Doherty has promised fans The Libertines will reveal ‘live news’ at their Hyde Park show today (July 4).
Writing on Twitter, Doherty told gig-goers to keep an eye on the big screens at 8.30pm tonight, when an announcement will be made. He said:
Anyone that’s heading down to Hyde Park, make sure you’re watching the big screens at 8.30…we’ll have some live news
— Peter Doherty (@petedoherty) July 5, 2014
He added: “Remember to keep an eye out later today for a lovely little announcement.” Tonight’s sold-out show will see the band playing to 60,000 fans on a bill that also includes The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park and The Enemy. Last weekend (June 28), The Libertines reunited to play their first gig together in four years, taking to the stage at Glasgow Barrowland to play a 25-song set as a warm-up for tomorrow night.
The group will headline Hyde Park as part of the Barclaycard British Summer Time series. “We’re getting on better than we ever did. Even back in the day,” Doherty told NME ahead of the gig. “The Libertines, in order for us to do it, it means you put everything else at risk, basically.”
“I was terrified,” Carl Barat said of the show. “But in a good way. It’s that classic irony of The Libertines and my life in general – you’re doing the thing you want to do, but you’re in your own personal hell! That seems to be the way.”
Make sure you pick up next week’s issue of NME, out July 9 on newsstands and available digitally, for an exclusive interview with The Libertines talking about what the future holds for the band, plus the definitive verdict on their comeback shows.
After Hyde Park, The Libertines headline Optimus Alive and Benicassim festivals, before going on their first tour of mainland Europe since 2004 in September.
The Libertines will play:
London Hyde Park British Summertime (July 5)
Lisbon Optimus Alive festival (12)
Benicàssim Festival (19)
Paris Zenith (September 30)
Amsterdam Heineken Music Hall (October 2)
Brussels FN Club (3)
Berlin Columbiahalle (4)
Dusseldorf Mitsubishi Electric Halle (5)
