I GET AROUND

The anywhere, anytime, anyhow boys take their guerilla rock and roll round the country...

The Libertines played two last minute wild-cat shows in the north of England over the weekend.

The four-piece played Middlesborough Arena on Thursday (January 15) and Newcastle Northumbria University on Friday (January 16).

The Northumbria University show was arranged on the morning of the show. Up to 1,000 fans, sustaining themselves with flasks of tea and sandwiches, queued through the day to guarantee their ticket.

The Middlesborough gig had been scheduled as a Pete Doherty solo and DJ set, and so fans were ecstatic when the whole band appeared on stage to perform a blistering 50-minute set.

Playing on borrowed equipment, lent by support band Blackwire, Libertines opened with ‘Horrorshow’

“We agreed to do this gig on the morning of the show. Give us a venue and we’ll give you a show. That’s why we’re doing this, to remind people what rock n roll is about,” said Alan McGee, the former Creation Records boss who was recently installed as The Libertines manager.

“Fucking blinding” band frontman Pete Doherty after the Newcastle gig. “We love the North East!”
