EL VY perform ‘Return To The Moon’ live on ‘Conan’ – watch

Track to appear on duo's forthcoming debut album

The National‘s Matt Berninger and Menomena‘s Brent Knopf recently joined forces to form a new group, EL VY. Appearing on ‘Conan’ last night (September 30), the pair performed the song ‘Return To The Moon’. Scroll down to watch.

‘Return To The Moon’ was released in August alongside a lyric video and will feature on the duo’s debut album of the same name, which is due out later this year via 4AD. The song has since been followed by ‘I’m The Man To Be’ and a live version of ‘No Time To Crank The Sun’.

“This record is more autobiographical than anything else I’ve written, but the details aren’t true,” Berninger previously revealed in a statement. “It’s written in the voices of a few invented characters, composites of different people – myself, my wife, and other people I was thinking about.”

“I never worried about sending Matt something unfinished,” Knopf added. “He’s able to imagine where it can go. He can grab the four bars that will become the core of the track and develop them into something amazing.”

EL VY is not the first project to feature members of both The National and Menomena. Earlier this year, Bryce Devendorf and Danny Seim, as well as Sufjan Stevens collaborator Dave Nelson, came together to form Pfarmers. The band’s debut album, ‘Gunnera’, came out in May.
