The Prodigy reveal that ‘violent-sounding’ new album will be released this year

The band say that the follow-up to 'Invaders Must Die' is imminent

The Prodigy‘s Liam Howlett has said that the band’s forthcoming new album is “violent-sounding”.

In this week’s NME, which is on newsstands now or available digitally, The Prodigy’s main man reveals that the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Invaders Must Die’ will be out later this year. Comparing the sound of the new LP to the band’s last, he commented: “It’s more violent-sounding; it feels wilder. It’s not so much old-school. It’s neither guitar-based not synth-based; it’s kind of a mixture.” He added: “It doesn’t feel so radio-friendly to me; it feels like its got a lot of edge.”

The band revealed that they were working on a new album back in 2012, telling NME it was tentatively titled ‘How To Steal A Jet Fighter’. Howlett has now said that the album will “definitely not” be called that, speaking in the new issue of NME which is available from today (July 2) in shops or digitally, he said: “I’ve got a new title but you can’t have it. It’s too early! I’ve written everything and I’m basically going through each track and making sure they’re firing.”

The Prodigy will headline Sonisphere this weekend (July 4-6) alongside Metallica and Iron Maiden, as well as headling up Global Gathering later in the year. Speaking about their plans for the two shows, Howlett commented: “We’ve got loads of new stuff, but at these big shows people don’t want to hear fucking new stuff.”
