The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett: ‘Our new album won’t be dubstep’

But co-frontman promises their new LP will 'still feel fresh'

The Prodigy‘s Liam Howlett has said that the band are fans of dubstep but ‘won’t go near’ the genre on their new album.

Howlett, who is currently working with his bandmates on the follow-up to their 2009 LP ‘Invaders Must Die’, told BBC Radio 1‘s Zane Lowe that they had no plans to alter their sound on the new album.

“All the dubstep stuff that’s around, we’re loving it, but that’s not our game. We won’t go near it,” said Howlett.

He went on to add:

We’ve always had respect for the masters who do their game, those boys who do that sound, that’s what they do. We know what we do, and when any Prodigy record hits it’ll still feel fresh.

The Prodigy are set to headline this summer’s Download festival, with singer Keith Flint previously promising that the band would be using the slot to debut new material from their as-yet-untitled sixth studio album.

The trio will join Metallica and a reunited Black Sabbath in headlining the festival, which will take place from June 8-10 2012 at Donington Park. See Downloadfestival.com for more information about the festival.
