Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood to showcase artwork at London exhibition

"People don't know I'm an artist," says guitarist ahead of November display

The Rolling StonesRonnie Wood will display his artwork at an exhibition in London next month.

‘Ronnie Wood’s Faces, Time and Places’ will feature 100 pieces of art created by the guitarist, and will be shown at The Gallery in Cork Street from November 7 to November 12.

Wood, who recently credited artist Damien Hirst with helping him battle his drug and alcohol addiction, told The Observer: “People don’t know that I’m an artist. Playing music as part of a team effort is wonderful, but to express individuality as an artist is very personal. Art is more powerful, a more personal statement.”

He also revealed that Hirst had encouraged his artistic career by purchasing him painting equipment, adding: “He [Hirst] could have furnished a whole art school with the brushes, easels, paint, everything. He told me: ‘Now you’ve got no excuse.”

American multi-millionaire Bernie Chase, who is co-curating the exhibition and owns many of the guitarist’s paintings that will be displayed, said: “Ronnie played with everybody and kept friends with everybody – George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend… The iconic rock ‘n’ roller. His art explains the history of rock ‘n’ roll.”

Earlier this year, Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger scotched rumours that the band were planning to play a special 50th anniversary gig next year. He and guitarist Keith Richards reportedly fell out when he mocked the size of the frontman’s manhood in his million-selling autobiography Life.

Last week, footage emerged of Richards performing with Hollywood star Johnny Depp. The pair teamed up at a New York aftershow party for Depp’s new movie The Rum Diary.
