The Shins have nearly finished their new album

Band are currently putting the finishing touches to latest LP

The Shins‘ James Mercer says that the band are currently putting the finishing touches to their new album – it will be their first LP in four years.

The US group released their last record ‘Port of Morrow’ in 2012 and previously teased new music earlier this year with a clip of a new track to their official Instagram account. It was first piece of new music since 2014 when the band contributed ‘So Now What’ to the soundtrack of Zach Braff film Wish I Was Here.

On Thursday, frontman James Mercer posted a video on Instagram containing a fragment of another new song along with this message: “Final mixing of a new Shins record is underway. I’ll post more soon! J”.

The band’s next album will be their fifth since forming in 1996. 2012’s ‘Port of Morrow’ was their first release in five years.

Since their last album, the band’s James Mercer released a new album, ‘After The Disco’, with his side-project Broken Bells, which sees him teaming up with Danger Mouse. Mercer’s pre-Shins band Flake Music also reissued their ‘When You Land Here, It’s Time to Return’ album in 2004.

The Shins will play their first gig in three years at End Of The Road 2016, their only scheduled UK date this year. They will return to play at the Larmer Tree Gardens festival this September as they join fellow headliner Joanna Newsom on the line-up.
