With Spiller‘s ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’ looking increasingly certain to beat Victoria Beckham, Dane Bowers and Truesteppers’ ‘Out of Our Minds’ collaboration to the Number One spot when both are released on Monday (August 14), the contest has been hotting up.
There has been mounting speculation in the press that Victoria requested the Spiller single’s release date be put back so that it doesn’t jeopardise her chances of having a Number One outwith the ranks of the Spice Girls.
Speaking to nme.com today, Sophie said: “I like Victoria Beckham but I think if I was her I wouldn’t be mentioning ‘the other song’ so much. She is a bit more worried about it than I am. She’s got more to lose.”
Unlike Posh – who has a string of promotional appearances lined up with Truesteppers including one at Ibiza next weekend and another at the Virgin Megastore at Piccadilly Circus in London on Monday, the day of the single’s release – Sophie reckons she will be taking it easy next week.
“I’ll be going to see some friends in town. I’ll certainly not be sitting glued to the radio saying ‘I’m not leaving the house, I might hear the song’! I feel as if it’s already been and gone, I can’t believe it’s not been released yet. It will be quite a kick when we actually do have a chart position though,” she admitted.
The buzz around the single, which has been the dancefloor hit of the summer in Ibiza, came as a shock to the theaudience singer, who confessed she’s never been to Ibiza and has no plans to go. She added, “It’s quite an amazing idea that the tune is so big in Ibiza. But no, it’s not going to change my socialising habits.”
Meanwhile, Sophie, who said she only occasionally bumps into her bandmates from theaudience, hopes to have a record deal wrapped up within the next week. She said, “This is my bridge between the two. First it’s the Spiller project them I’m off completely on my own. I’m just about to sign a solo record deal, and will be launching my solo stuff later this year.”
