Singer still calls his former Stone Roses bandmate’s song 'pretty good'

Ian Brown has revealed why he turned down a new song that his former Stone Roses bandmate John Squire sent him for possible inclusion on his latest album, ‘My Way’.

Brown said that the track Squire sent him was “pretty good”, but his son told him that releasing it would be a bad idea.

“Kid said, ‘Look dad, was he looking out for you back then [during The Stone Roses]? Are you sure you wanna do that?’” recalled Brown.

The singer was insistent that he did like the song, praising Squire‘s songwriting on it, telling BBC 6 Music: “I could have fitted on the first three minutes of the tune, it was pretty good. He definitely did it with me in mind because it had electronic, hip-hop drums on it and I thought, ‘Whoever’s done that must have heard me solo stuff’. He’s still got it, it’s good.”

In March, Squire appeared on BBC Newsnight to state that he will never play in The Stone Roses again.
