Reading And Leeds Festivals organiser: ‘The Stone Roses won’t be playing next year’ – video

Melvin Benn also reveals new festival plans

Reading And Leeds Festivals organiser Melvin Benn has ruled out any possibility that The Stone Roses will perform at next year’s event.

Although he claims he has already secured two of the headline acts for 2013 in a video you can watch above, Ian Brown and co are not one of them he said.

He added:

We’ve got two out of the three headliners already secured. The third – we know exactly who we want. We haven’t made the approach yet, [but] my feeling is they want to do it. My feeling is probably that they’re [The Stone Roses] are not on our list.

He also paid tribute to this year’s headliners, Foo Fighters, by describing their show at Leeds as “the biggest love-in I’ve ever seen”.

Dave Grohl and co topped the bill at this year’s bash along with The Cure and Kasabian and Benn said their performance had been “very special”.

“That was the biggest love-in I’ve ever seen,” he said in reference to their Leeds performance on Friday evening (August 24). “The atmosphere, the bond between Dave Grohl and the fans is just unreal. It felt very special. I was quite moved by it actually.”

Benn, also spoke highly of Kasabian and described their decision to end their set with a cover of ‘She Loves You’ as “perfect” and a “really special Reading moment”.

Benn, who organises Latitude festival in addition to Reading And Leeds, also said his plans to create a new, smaller festival were “still in the pipeline”. “I felt it would be nice to start a really tiny little festival and see how that goes,” he said. “I’ve got some people I want to work with who I think will bring fresh and new ideas to the festival market and we’ll want to create a festival that’s different to everything else that’s out there.”
