Strokes drummer readies side-project album

Fabrizio Moretti teams up with his girlfriend

The Strokes drummer Frabrizio Moretti is working on a new album with his side project — a collaboration with his girlfriend, Binki Shapiro.

Also playing in the band is their friend, Brazilian singer-guitarist Rodrigo Amarante, formerly of Los Hermanos.

The band’s tentative name is Little Joy, which is also the name of a popular dive bar in the Echo Park neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

The album is slated for an autumn release on Rough Trade in the US, and is reminiscent of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vince Guaraldi and Sixties wall-of-sound girl groups, according to Rolling Stone.

Moretti was recently spotted at the Los Angeles gig of another Stroke side project, Albert Hammond Jr, as previously reported.
