The New York artist hails the iconic band as a major influence
New York’s Porches has covered The Strokes‘ ‘Trying Your Luck’. Scroll down to listen.
The artist – real name Aaron Maine – tackled the classic from ‘Is This It’ with his band during a live session on SiriusXMU.
“They just came out at such a crazy formative part of my life,” Maine said of The Strokes. “I had never heard anything like that. They just were so special to me, so responsible for me getting into music as much as I did. I even think melodically Julian [Casablancas] is there in my subconscious.”
The five-piece are booked to play New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival this June. Organisers have said one of the reasons they booked the band to headline was due to the likelihood they would be supporting a new album.
Speaking in a Reddit AMA, the festival’s organisers said: “This would be their first batch of new tunes in, well, just about a half decade. Kind of a big deal. Also, they’ve played a total of eight shows in North America in the last decade, so I’d say it’s a pretty big deal any time they hit the stage.”
The Strokes were clocked in the studio in late 2015, working on a follow-up to their 2013 album ‘Comedown Machine’.
