EARLY GLORY FOR THE STROKES AT NME CARLING AWARDS

There's also good news for Radiohead and the cast of 'The Office'...

THE

STROKES, ASH, IAN BROWN,

Fatboy Slim and ‘THE OFFICE’ are amongst the first

winners at this year’s NME CARLING AWARDS.

The ceremony is now well underway at London’s

Planit Arches. The first five categories have now been

announced by presenter Zane Lowe – ‘The Honorary

Tour Awards’, ‘Carling Best New Act’,

‘Single Of The Year’ ‘Best Solo

Artist’ and ‘Best Music Video’.

The ‘Honorary Tour Awards’ were picked up by the four

groups who made up the recent NME Carling Awards Tour – Andrew WK,

Black Rebel

Motorcycle Club, Lostprophets and The

Coral.

The

Strokes, who are nominated for five awards this afternoon, have

already picked up the award for ‘Carling Best New Act’,

while ‘Single Of The Year’ this year goes to Ash for

‘Burn Baby Burn’.

Ian

Brown has beaten off competition from the likes of Kylie

Minogue, PJ Harvey and Ryan Adams

to win ‘Best Solo Artist’. Ian Brown

is currently on a UK tour and due to perform this evening in

Middlesborough, so unable to make it to the ceremony. His

award was picked up by friend and former Factory Records

boss Tony Wilson.

Elsewhere, Radiohead’s ‘Pyramid Song’ has been awarded

‘Best Music Video’ ahead of Gorillaz’

‘Clint Eastwood’ and U2’s

‘Elevation’, and BBC comedy series

‘The Office’ has been awarded ‘Best TV

Show’. Other nominations in this category included ‘Jackass

TV’, ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Later…With

Jools Holland’.

The winners so far are: Honorary Tour Awards – Andrew WK,

BMRC, Lostprophets, The Coral

Carling Best New Act – The Strokes

Single Of The Year – Ash, ‘Burn Baby Burn’

Best Solo Artist – Ian Brown

Best Music Video – Radiohead, ‘Pyramid Song’
