The Temper Trap, Grimes, Pond play The Great Escape in Brighton

Spector, Mystery Jets and Dry The River also play the seaside event

The Temper Trap headlined Great Escape festival last night (May 11) in Brighton.

The Australian five-piece played the Dome and showcased new material from their forthcoming second album ‘The Temper Trap’ as well as playing a host of songs from their 2009 debut ‘Conditions’, including the acclaimed single, ‘Sweet Disposition’.

‘The Temper Trap’ was recorded at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles. The first single from the album, ‘Need Your Love’, is out now.

Also up yesterday was Montreal-based electro pop artist Grimes who packed out an early evening set at Digital. Aided by two face-painted backing dancers, Grimes aka Claire Boucher, played a selection of tracks from her acclaimed album ‘Visions’ as well as some earlier tracks.

Meanwhile, Australian newcomers Pond played their third gig of the festival, supporting Mystery Jets at the Corn Exchange for an NME-sponsored show. While the band concentrated on material from their ‘Beard, Wives, Denim’ album, frontman Nick Allbrook spent much of their set crowdsurfing.

Meanwhile, London newcomers Palma Violets drew a huge crowd to their show at Horatios. The band, newly signed to Rough Trade, played a 30-minute set which saw a host of audience members singing along to their songs, despite only a handful of tracks being available online.
