The ex-Joy Division man will perform with the trio tonight (January 25)

The Wombats are set to be joined by ex-Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook on stage tonight (January 25) in Newcastle.

The band, who will play at the Cluny venue as part of the JD Set series of gigs, will play their single ‘Backfire At The Disco’, with Hook on bass.

Speaking to NME.COM, lead singer Matthew Murphy said: “JD asked him if he’d like to play with us and he said yes.

‘Backfire At The Disco’ is his favourite, so we’re playing that with him.”

Murphy went on to explain why the band weren’t playing their hit ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division’ with the man who used to be in the namechecked band.

“I think that would be too much for him,” he said. It’d be so ironic it’d be downright ridiculous. It’d be like if you saw your own doppelganger.”
