The xx want to release new ‘club’ album in time for festival season

'We're just about to start recording,' says Jamie xx

The xx have revealed that their new album has been influenced by “club music” – and that they want to release it in time for next year’s festival season.

In an interview with The Creators Project, Jamie xx said that the band, who won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their 2010 self-titled debut, were about to enter the studio to continue work on the LP.

“The majority of stuff that I’m working now is The xx stuff,” he said. “We’re just about to start recording. Hopefully we’ll get it done in time to be asked to do festivals next year, because that’s the most fun.”

He went on to speak about the sound of the album and its influences, adding:

We’ve all come back off tour and [have] kind of been partying a little bit more. So club music has definitely had an influence on the next record.

The xx revealed they had started work on their second studio album last month in a post on their newly set up blog xx-xx.co.uk, on which they plan to post regular updates on the progress of the album’s creation.

The band are set to make their live return at Primavera Sound festival in 2012, where they’ll be joined by the likes of Bjork, Spiritualized and The Drums. For more information, visit Primaverasound.com.
