Band play the festival for the first time

The Zutons played at the Isle Of Wight Festival for the first time this evening (June 14), with frontman Dave McCabe taking time out from the set to admire a large inflatable penis a fan had taken to the show.

The band played hits including ‘Valerie’ and ‘You Will You Won’t’, performing in front of an enormous silver-coloured ‘Z’ suspended at the back of the stage.

“Ah, big blow-up penises, they’re the greatest,” laughed McCabe, sporting a black cowboy-style shirt and long curly hair, before playing ‘What’s Your Problem?’.

After playing ‘Pressure Point’, the singer/guitarist paid tribute to the Isle Of Wight crowd, pointing out that the festival was a new experience for the Liverpool band.

“This is the first time we’ve played here,” he said. “We want to thank you for coming out. We’re dead proud.”

Before playing the next song, ‘Confusion’, McCabe asked the audience to make the “reeds” gesture from side to side with their arms to mark the slow song. He was thrilled with the response, declaring, “Honestly, that’s the best reeds we’ve ever had. You kept it going all the way through!”

Shortly before closing the set with ‘You Will You Won’t’ McCabe acknowledged Iggy And The Stooges, who are set to play next on the main stage.

“Are you looking forward to The Stooges?” he asked. “We are. This is for The Stooges. Actually, fuck it, this is for The Zutons.”

The Zutons played:

‘Zuton Fever’

‘I Know I’ll Never Leave’

‘Don’t Ever Think (Too Much)’

‘What’s Your Problem?’

‘Pressure Point’

‘Confusion’

‘Valerie’

‘Harder And Harder’

‘Give Me A Reason’

‘Always Right Behind You’
