The eccentric singer-songwriter played his track 'Chicago' on the 'Late Show With David Letterman'

Tom Waits has performed material from his most recent album, 2011’s ‘Bad As Me’, live for the first time.

The legendary singer songwriter appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman last night (July 9) to sing ‘Chicago’, accompanied by his son Casey Waits on drums, bassist Larry Taylor, guitarist David Hidalgo, keyboardist Augie Myers and guitarist Big Bill Morganfield. Scroll down to watch footage of the appearance.

As well as the song, Waits was also interviewed by Letterman. The pair discussed an antique rat trap that Waits had bought from eBay. He joked that he is now no longer allowed on the internet auction site.

Tom Waits will also appear on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight (July 10), where he will play another song from his 17th studio album.

Last year Florence And The Machine‘s Florence Welch said that she wanted Tom Waits to cover one of her tracks, saying: “I would love Tom Waits to cover ‘Shake It Out’.”
