Tom Waits has teamed up with his friend and software pioneer TOM SAWYER in a project to build libraries for children in Mexico. The project is based in the Mexican village of Alamos, where Sawyer sponsors a child.
After securing a building for the library from the Alamos school board, the two Toms, with the help of other qualified volunteers, have been raising money through plays and events to fund the purchase of new books, and to hopefully build more libraries in Mexico by the end of 2001.
If you would like to get involved in the project you can contact info@tomastomas.org, visit www.tomastomas.org, or write to Tomas Tomas, 1998 Neotomas Ave, Santa Rosa, California, 95405.
An acclaimed actor as well as a musician, Waits’ last record release was last year’s ‘Mule Variations’. He’s currently working on new material.
