The promo for new video 'Handshake' has been banned by MTV
Two Door Cinema Club have had their new video, which features their decapitated heads rolling down a bowling lane, banned by MTV – watch it below.
The promo for the band’s new single ‘Handshake’ was directed by Sam Pilling, who has previously shot videos for the likes of Wu Lyf, SBTRKT and David Lynch. Filmed in a north London bowling ally, it shows the band’s heads being chopped off by a man with a giant meat cleaver, before being put on a plate in a fridge, then carried to the local lane where they are thrown around as bowling balls.
Speaking about the video in this week’s NME, which is on newsstands now or available digitally
, bassist Kevin Baird admitted it’s “great” the video won’t be shown on MTV. “Because we’ve never had anything banned before!”
“It’s a bit of a break with the past,” he added. “I think we’ve done one or two very good videos and a couple of very average ones. We wanted to do something a bit spectacular this time, and I honestly do think it’s the best thing we’ve ever shot.”
Meanwhile, Two Door Cinema Club are among the first acts to be announced for this year’s BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend. The annual free music event is set to be held in Londonderry, Northern Ireland over the weekend of May 24-26.
