U2 play revived TFI Friday – watch

Chris Evans five year old son asks the band 'how much longer do you think you've got?'

U2 have become the first band to play the revived ‘TFI Friday’ with Chris Evans, playing three tracks on the show last night (October 16).

Talking to Chris Evans in the interview segment, Bono said “it took us about thirty-five years to become the band we wanted to be in, and this tour has been that for us.”

The Edge adds “we’ve been thrilled with the reviews, as they’ve been pretty universally positive.”

The section ‘Noah’s killer question’ offers the strangest moment, though, and sees Chris Evans’ son take centre stage. His question to the band? “How much longer do you think you’ve got?”

The Edge (who Bono rebrands ‘The Egg’) takes the question in good humour, answering “in 27 years time we invent immortality,” before handing over his plec to Noah.

The tracks played on the show were ‘Vertigo’, ‘Song for Someone’ and ‘Raised By Wolves’, while they also gave a post-filming performance of ‘Out of Control’ for the studio audience.

U2 are in the midst of their sold-out ‘Innocence and Experience’ tour, which concludes in their home town of Dublin in late November. It’s been eventful at times, with one show in Stockholm having to be postponed following a security threat. The UK dates kick off on October 25, with six dates at the O2 Arena, before they play two dates in Glasgow and two in Belfast.

The next studio album ‘Songs of Experience’ will be released in 2016, with Bono recently saying “a lot of the songs have been written already.”
