The Mandela SOS gig on Robben Island will not take place next month...
A massive AIDS benefit show in South Africa, set to feature host of stars has been cancelled.
As previously reported, the gig, on February 2, was set to take place on Robben Island, the tiny rocky outcrop off the coast of Cape Town were Mandela was imprisoned for his anti-apartheid stand.
Bono, Macy Gray and Shaggy were due to play the show, which was called ‘Mandela SOS’.
However, BBC news reports that the show will now not take place. John Samuel, chief executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation said in a statement: “We were overwhelmed with the enthusiastic response to [Mr Mandela’s] call by the international artists who rose to the occasion to offer support for this proposed historic Human Rights Concert.
“We have, however, concluded that the concert cannot take place since the proposed producers were not able to come to a satisfactory agreement with the foundation.”
