Bono tells the Americans that it is still safe to visit Ireland, despite foot and mouth and the possibility of Gary Moore appearing in the holiday snaps...
U2 have added their voice to Irish goverment efforts to tempt American tourists to Ireland by dismissing the dangers posed by foot and mouth disease.
Speaking from the stage in Los Angeles on Monday, Bono read a short statement playing down the dangers of the disease.
He said: “We would like to tell everyone that Ireland is a perfectly safe place for a vacation. All of us in the band live and work there.
“It’s a great place for a vacation and we hope you will continue to visit.”
The Irish government is on a charm offensive to safeguard the lucrative tourist market. According to www.bbc.co.uk, they have recruited other big names to help dispel misunderstanding, after a survey found that one in five Americans thought that foot and mouth was the same as mad cow disease. Actor Martin Sheen is among those taking part.
