Band say that the possible Glastonbury anthem is less 'feel-good' then people think
The New York band play the Pyramid Stage on Friday (June 25) and have been surprised to hear that their latest single ‘Holiday’ has been tipped as a summer sing-a-long.
Bass player Chris Baio told NME: “I read that [it’s the summer’s anthem] in Intelligent Life at the airport. They had summer anthems, things like ‘Hey Jude’, a Pavement song, ‘Last Nite’ and ‘Holiday’.”
However, frontman Ezra Koenig has his doubts about the song’s summer-friendly potential, as its lyrics reference the first Gulf War: “I don’t know if it’s the most feel-good song necessarily, it feels good to play it but… there’s stuff going on there.”
However, the singer promises a festival-friendly show nonetheless: “At festivals you can put together a pretty bombastic set. It’s going to be our first time on the Pyramid Stage, so that’s an honour.”
