They play through heavy rain in New Jersey
Vampire Weekend fought heavy rain and thunder at All Points West today (July 31), performing a full set on day one of the festival.
Taking to the stage in early evening at Liberty State Park in frontman Ezra Koenig’s home state of New Jersey, the performance was in jeopardy throughout as the stage manager gave regular warnings that the set could be cut short due to the storm.
Performing on the Blue Comet stage, the band’s 50-minute set was a string of live favourites from last year’s self-titled debut, including ‘A-Punk’ and ‘Oxford Comma’ as well as new song ’White Sky’.
Despite the band’s obsession with New England destinations such as Cape Cod and Alston, the biggest cheers from the crowd were reseerved for the lyrics to final track ‘Walcott’ “all the way to New Jersey/all the way to the Garden State/Out of Cape Cod tonight”.
As previously reported, the band are gearing up for the release of their second album, set to come out in September.
