Bestival to launch Canadian event in Toronto

Two-day event will take place by Lake Ontario

Bestival have announced details of a Canadian leg of the festival in Toronto.

The two-day event will take place by Lake Ontario on June 12-13, festival organiser Rob da Bank has confirmed. It will run in partnership with SFX Entertainment and Canadian company Embrace.

Though the line-up is yet to be announced, 20,000 people are expected to attend each day, the New York Times reports. “No disrespect to the festivals in North America, but a lot of them are very much stages, bars, food tents,” da Bank said. “This festival will look very different. It will have theatricality, ambition.”

Last week, the first raft of artists for the 2015 event at Isle of Wight were announced, with The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Tame Impala, Duran Duran and Jungle set to perform live alongside The Jacksons, Flying Lotus, Jurassic 5, Jamie xx, Annie Mac, Gorgon City, Little Dragon and Future Islands.

The Chemical Brothers will headline the Saturday night of the festival while Underworld are set to headline headline the Big Top on the Thursday night as part of a UK festival exclusive.

It was also confirmed that Bestival will “return to its roots” this year with the theme “Summer of Love”. “We’re taking it right back to our roots for the 12th annual Bestival. It’s also the 20th birthday of the club where it all started – Sunday Best, and that club and our beloved Bestival were founded on some pretty simple aims – listen to amazing music, make new friends, have fun, and maybe stay up all night,” da Bank said.
