Midweek Chart Update: Fall Out Boy battling Mark Ronson for Number One spot

US pop-punk band are narrowly ahead at today's midweek point

Mark Ronson and Fall Out Boy are battling for the Number One spot in the Official UK Album Chart this week, with the US band currently ahead on sales.

Fall Out Boy’s sixth album ‘American Beauty/American Psycho’ was released on Monday.

Official Chart Company data shows that the album is just 1,500 sales ahead of Mark Ronson and his new album ‘Uptown Special’ at today’s Midweek stage and is on course to be Number One when the full chart rundown is announced on Sunday (January 26). Victory on Sunday would give the band their first ever UK Number One album.

Other new entries in this week’s Official Album Chart at today’s midweek stage include Enter Shikari (3), Belle & Sebastian (8), Above & Beyond (9) and The Decemberists (10).

Outside the Top 10 there are new entries from Marilyn Manson with his new album ‘The Pale Emperor’ entering at Number 11. The Waterboys are new at 12 with ‘Modern Blues’, while Joey Badass’ debut ‘B4.DA.$$’ (18), Sleater-Kinney (22) and Funeral For A Friend (28) are also new.

Meanwhile, in the Official UK Single Chart, Meghan Trainor is trying for a second Number One single with her ‘Lips Are Movin’ competing with Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ for the top spot this week. Should she reach Number One it would be her second UK chart topper following 2014’s ‘All About That Bass’.
