A former west London rapper is reportedly under investigation for the beheading of journalist James Foley.
The Independent reports that Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary – who as a rapper was known as L Jinny – has been fighting with the Islamic State (Isis) in Syria and is believed to be one of several British jihadists under investigation.
Bary reportedly travelled to Syria last year from Maida Vale, west London, where he lived with his mother and five siblings. The 24-year-old’s father Adel Abdul Bary, an Egyptian refugee, was extradited to the US in 2012 on charges of terrorism for his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of two US embassies in east Africa. According to the Independent, he was believed to be one of Osama Bin Laden’s closes lieutenants.
As a rapper, Bary’s music achieved some notability when his singles received airtime on BBC Radio in 2012. Some of his music is still available on YouTube. A sound expert has told the Independent that there is a “big likeness” between Bary’s voice and the voice of Foley’s killer.
