13 more people hospitalised at the Veld festival in Toronto
Two people have died after taking suspected ‘party drugs’ at the Veld festival in Toronto.
15 people were hospitalised on Sunday (August 3) night of the event and, of those people, a 20-year-old woman and 22-year-old man passed away.
In a news conference, Toronto Police Deputy Chief Mark Saunders commented: “Out of the 15, two have succumbed and died as a result of ingesting what we believe to be party drugs which were purchased at the Veld music festival.”
He added that he did not yet know what kind of drugs the ill festival-goers had consumed: “People are saying it could be MDMA, it could be ecstasy, it could be GHB… People are dying because they are ingesting this drug. We want to find that drug, we want to find out exactly what it is.” The homicide department are now investigating the two deaths.
He added: “If anyone you know was at that festival and you have concerns for their behaviour or how they are acting right now, or if they are in any kind of distress, it is important that they go to the hospital immediately and seek medical attention.”
The Veld festival took place on August 2 and 3 at Downsview Park in Toronto. Calvin Harris, Iggy Azelea, Armin Van Buuren and Waka Flocka Flame were amongst the artists performing at the electronic and dance music-orientated event.
