Most played 20 songs on UK radio of 2016 revealed

There are no Brits in the Top Five

Danish five-piece Lukas Graham have the most-played song on UK radio this year so far.

Their 2015 single ‘7 Years’ has been played 99,506 times by a total of 295 radio stations in the first six months of 2016. They narrowly beat Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ into second place.

The figures by radio research body RadioMonitor show that, of the Top 20 songs, only one was actually released in 2016. That was ‘Pillowtalk’ by former One Direction singer Zayn, at No 13 in the chart.

There are no British artists in the Top Five, with Coldplay’s ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ at No 7 the highest-charting local talent. Bieber has two songs in the Top Five, with ‘Sorry’ at No 5. Coldplay are the other act to feature twice in the Top 20. As well as ‘Hymn For The Weekend’, their album ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ produced ‘Adventure Of A Lifetime’ at No 15.
