Italian duo will M+A win cash prize and will perform at festival in June
The winner of Glastonbury’s Emergent Talent competition has been announced by festival boss Michael Eavis.
M+A, a duo consisting of Italian musicians Michele Ducci and Alessandro Degli Angioli, have won the £5,000 cash prize and will perform on one of the main stages at the Somerset festival, which takes place between June 25 and 29.
There were also two runners-up announced, Cornish four-piece The Black Tambourines and London-based singer songwriter Izzy Bizu. They each won £2,500. The live finals of the competition took place in Pilton last night (April 5). Each of the eight bands on the shortlist performed a 10-minute set. It’s likely those acts that didn’t finish in the top three will also be given the chance to perform on one of the festival’s smaller stages. M+A have a new album, ‘These Days’, ready to release on September 30.
The shortlist of eight bands was whittled down from a longlist of 120 acts. The final eight were The Black Tambourines, Pandr Eyez, Gibson Bull, Hero-Fisher, Only Girl, M+A, FURS and Izzy Bizu. Revealing the final eight, Emily Eavis said: “We’re so proud of this shortlist. It was really hard to get it down to just eight acts – the standard this year was incredible – but I think we’ve whittled it down to a really strong final eight. I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone who entered, and to our team of judges for narrowing it down to 120 acts. Now bring on the live final!”
The competition has been running for several years, with previous winners including Stornoway, Scouting For Girls, Treetop Flyers and The Subways.
