The Civil Wars scrap UK tour blaming “internal discord”

US folk duo cancel remainder of current tour

The Civil Wars have scrapped the remainder of their current UK tour and thrown their future in doubt, citing “internal discord and irreconcilable differences”.

The folk duo, who won two Grammys for their debut album ‘Barton Hollow’ earlier this year, were in the middle of a UK tour and played a live show at London’s Roundhouse venue last night (November 6). However, they later posted an update on Facebook after the show explaining that they would not be playing their scheduled gigs in Brighton, Warwick, Southampton and Cardiff.

Posting on Facebook, Joy Williams & John Paul White wrote:

We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret. However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013.

The band later added: “PS – We understand that there are many of you stuck with service charges and travel reservations due to our abrupt cancelations. Please email us at info@thecivilwars.com if there are costs incurred that you would like to be reimbursed for, include a scan or attachment to your receipt(s) of the costs, and we will do our best to reimburse you for non-refundable charges.”

Shows at Brighton Dome, Warwick Arts Centre, Southampton Guildhall and Cardiff University.

The Civil Wars won two awards at the 2012 Grammys, taking home the prizes for Best Folk Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. The duo also recorded with country star Taylor Swift on the soundtrack to Hollywood movie The Hunger Games.
