London’s Vibe Bar to close in November

Venue was home to live performances from the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses, Everything Everything and The Orwells

London’s Vibe Bar, located on Brick Lane and the host to early gigs by bands including Pulled Apart By Horses, Everything Everything and The Orwells, is to close.

Vibe Bar opened in 1994 and was also the home to club night This Feeling, where guest DJs have included Carl Barât.

However, the bar has been affected by strict new licensing laws that club bosses claim have turned venues like theirs into “prisons with airport-style security”. Speaking to the Evening Standard, club owner Alan Miller attacked Tower Hamlets council for their “petty minded” licensing rules that he claims have turned the local area into “a quieter place”.

Among Miller’s complaints are compulsory security measures including ID scans, large security teams and extensive CCTV networks plus a restriction on one-off licence extensions for special events, which claims led to a 30 per cent fall in business for 2013.

Vibe Bar will close its doors for the last time on November 11.
