Announcement set for September 10 ahead of October 29 ceremony
The nominees for this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize will be revealed next week (September 10).
The ‘2014 Albums of the Year’ will be revealed at 5.30pm next Wednesday by Alice Levine at an event held at The Hospital Club in Covent Garden, London. Television coverage of the announcement, hosted by Nick Grimshaw, will be broadcast on Channel 4 on the night of September 11.
The overall winner of the 2014 Prize will be decided and announced at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Awards Show at London’s Roundhouse on October 29. Last year’s award was won by James Blake (pictured above), while Alt-J (pictured right) took home the prize in 2012.
This year’s judging panel has been revealed, with former nominees Lianne La Havas and Ghostpoet joined by DJ Annie Mac and a number of industry figures.

Kate Mossman – Music Writer and Broadcaster; Arts Editor, New Statesman
Lianne La Havas – Musician and songwriter
Mike Flynn – Music Writer; Deputy Editor Jazzwise
Nick Luscombe – DJ and broadcaster; founder ‘Musicity’
Kate Tempest remains the favourite with bookies to win this year’s prize. Closely behind her are FKA Twigs, Jungle and East India Youth with Damon Albarn, Sam Smith, Chvrches and Wild Beasts also in the running. One Direction and Gary Barlow are outsiders with odds of 100/1.
