Two people injured as LED screen collapses at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival

Two workers were seriously injured at the first weekend of the dance festival

Two workers have been left seriously injured after an LED screen collapsed on them at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

The huge US event caters to dance music fans and will see performances from Calvin Harris, Azealia Banks, Crystal Castles, Hot Chip and Snoop Dogg this coming weekend (March 15-17). Just hours before the gates were due to open last night (March 14) a partial collapse of the main stage left two workers seriously injured. Assosciated Press reports that the workers were struck by a 7 foot tall section of the LED screen which extended across three quarters of the stage.

Issuing a statement following the accident festival organisers Russell Faibisch and Adam Russakoff said: “Today (Thursday, March 14) as preparations were being made for this weekend’s Ultra Music Festival, a section of an LED screen fell and injured two workers. Fire Rescue was on site so there was a rapid response. Festival organisers are working with, and supporting, authorities as they investigate the details behind the accident.”

A Miami fire and rescue spokesman added, “Once we get the approval that everything is structurally sound, we’ll go ahead and allow the event promoter to open up the finished stage.” A tweet from the festival’s official account this morning suggests that the festival will go ahead as planned.

Ultra Music Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary this year and will be stages across two weekends with a repeat of this weekends line-up appearing again between March 22-24. Other big names on the festival bill include Deadmau5, Disclosure, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and Major Lazer.
