Rapper found dead at his home on Wednesday (May 1)
The funeral for Kriss Kross‘ Chris Kelly will take place in Atlanta this coming Thursday (May 9).
The ceremony will be preceded by a public viewing on Wednesday afternoon and evening at Murray Brothers Funeral Home, reports AP. Kelly – one half of the 1990s rap duo – was found “unresponsive” at his home in Atlanta on Wednesday (May 1) and was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
It has been reported that the rapper died after taking a mixture of heroin and cocaine the night before his death. The rapper’s mother, Donna Kelly Pratt, apparently told police that her son had taken a ‘speedball’.
Kris Kross – who were famous for wearing their clothes backwards – was made up of Kelly, aka ‘Mac Daddy’, and Chris ‘Daddy Mac’ Smith. Their biggest hit was their 1992 album ‘Totally Krossed Out’ and the multi-million selling single ‘Jump’.
The duo last performed in February to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label that signed them. The duo were just 13 years old when they were discovered in a shopping mall in Atlanta.
Deftones paid tribute to the rapper by covering Kris Kross’s 1992 hit single ‘Jump’. The band performed a cover of the song at their show in St Louis on May 1, mashing it up with their own track ‘Engine No 9’.
