A host of bands in the US offered discounted gig tickets yesterday (October 2) in the wake of the shutdown of the US government.
Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips and Pharrell Williams were just some of the nine acts playing at Washington DC venues 9:30 Club, U Street Music Hall, Lincoln Theatre and Merriweather Post Pavilion offering buy-one-get-one-free tickets to shows this week, the Washington Post reports.
Marky Ramone, Andrew WK, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Steve Aoki also took part in the ‘ Affordable Ticket Act’, where fans were able to purchase tickets at the discounted rate.
The US government closed all non-essential operations on Tuesday (October 1) after Congress failed to agree a deal on a new budget. According to the BBC, the shutdown has left more than 700,000 employees on unpaid leave and closed national parks, tourist sites, government websites, office buildings and more.
