The annual contest sees bands and artists competing for a chance to perform at the festival with one of the eight finalists set to join the bill for the June event. The winner will be announced on April 5 following a live final. Having started with a long list of 120, the eight acts who remain are:

The Black Tambourines
Pandr Eyez
Gibson Bull
Hero-Fisher
Only Girl
M+A
FURS
Izzy Bizu

“We’re so proud of this shortlist. It was really hard to get it down to just eight acts – the standard this year was incredible – but I think we’ve whittled it down to a really strong final eight,” said festival organiser Emily Eavis. “I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone who entered, and to our team of judges for narrowing it down to 120 acts. Now bring on the live final!”

Earlier today it was reported that Glastonbury Festival has been granted a new 10-year licence. There was no opposition to the licence, which will allow the festival to continue until 2014 and will allow for more staff on the site.

Arcade Fire have already been confirmed to headline the festival in 2014, which will take place between June 25 and 29. Other acts who have confirmed they are playing include Dolly Parton, Blondie and Lily Allen.
