British man dies at Snowbombing festival

25 year-old reported to have complained of chest pains prior to death at Austrian event

A British man has died after collapsing at Snowbombing festival in Austria.

The 25 year-old man from West Bromwich collapsed on the first day of the festival, which is held at the the Mayrhofen ski resort in the Zillertal valley. The Guardian reports that the man complained of chest pains prior to his death.

“The man was treated by paramedics but lost consciousness and died,” an official from Mayrhofen police said.

A statement from the Snowbombing organisers reads: “We have offered every assistance and our thoughts are with the man’s family. His next of kin are being contacted. We cannot comment further at this point.”

A post-mortem will take place today (April 8).

The festival began yesterday (April 7) and runs until April 12. The snowboarding and music event is now in its 15th year and will also see sets from The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Chase & Status, Rudimental and Groove Armada as well as Four Tet, who will be playing in a forest on his own specially curated bill, featuring Daphni, James Zabiela, Nathan Fake and Anthony Naples.
