Inquest into death at BoomTown Fair festival hears woman was found hanged in toilet

A woman who died after being found unconscious in a toilet block at the BoomTown Fair festival this weekend hanged herself, an inquest has heard.

BBC News confirmed that 31-year-old Lisa Williamson, from Bromyard, Herefordshire, attended the Winchester event with her husband and was found at 2pm on Saturday (August 9). She was taken to a nearby hospital but died shortly after arrival.

After news of Williamson’s death was first reported, a festival spokesman said: “BoomTown Fair would like to express their sincerest condolences to the family of the young woman who was found unconscious on site but despite the efforts of all our staff involved she was later pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Winchester hospital. Our thoughts are with all her loved ones at this tragic time and the festival is doing all it can to assist those involved.”

BoomTown Fair festival takes place in Winchester at the Matterley Bowl Estate. This year was the sixth time the festival has been held.

NOFX, Jimmy Cliff, The Wailers, Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, Shaggy and Chas & Dave all featured on the line-up for this year’s festival.
