Rita Ora: ”RIP’ wasn’t written for Rihanna’

Ora's debut album is set to hit the Number One spot later today

Rita Ora has denied that her Number One single ‘RIP’ was originally written for Rihanna.

Speaking to the The Sunday Times, the London singer said:

‘RIP’ wasn’t written for Rihanna. But even if it was played to her, I don’t care. As soon as I heard it, I said it was mine. I was going to fight for that song. And I was right – it went to Number One.

Ora also spoke about supporting Coldplay at a number of their European stadium shows over the summer. She said she was “inspired” by watching their frontman Chris Martin every night.

“Coldplay don’t need all that fancy dancy stuff because they play with so much energy,” she said. “It’s just the four of them rocking out, with Chris running around and throwing himself on the floor.”

She said that Chris Martin had given her tips on making it in the music industry: “He told me to stand by my music and have fun with it.”

Rita Ora is set to score a UK Number One album later today with her debut LP ‘Ora’. The singer was on track to take the top spot in the Official UK Album Chart in the midweeks, narrowly outselling Elbow, who were at Number Two with their B-sides collection ‘Dead In The Boot’, according to the Official Charts Company.

Rita Ora has scored three UK Number One singles. The 21-year-old singer, who is signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, made her chart debut in February on DJ Fresh’s ‘Hot Right Now’. ‘RIP’ with Tinie Tempah was Number One in May and she also topped the chart with ‘How We Do (Party)’. All three tracks broke the 100,000 sales barrier in their first week of sale.
