Canadian singer calls Prince William a ‘douche’

Luckily Meaghan Blanchard's slip of the tongue is laughed off by the royal

Country singer Meaghan Blanchard accidentally called Prince William a ‘douche’ before performing for him during his state visit to Canada.

Blanchard was addressing the Prince in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and mistakenly thanked “the douche” for his visit, mixing up the words duke and duchess, reports The Huffington Post.

Apparently the slip of the tongue “sparked widespread laughter from the audience and prompted some ‘life-saving’ guffaws from the royal couple themselves”.

“I felt awful because that’s not how I envisioned it going,” explained 22 year old Blanchard – pictured right – after the event, “but sometimes that’s just life and you gotta roll with the punches.” She also added that: “It’ll be something to tell the kids, that’s for sure.”

After her gaffe, the singer performed her song ‘Waltzing With You’ for the royal couple and a specially invited audience.

Blanchard’s second album ’Chasin’ Lonely Again’ was recently named Country Album Of The Year by the East Coast Music Association.
