NME photographer set to stage Northern Soul inspired exhibition

Dean Chalkley will also unveil 'Young Souls' short film in London

NME snapper Dean Chalkley is set to open a photographic exhibition and screen a short film based on Northern Soul in London later this month.

The exhibition, entitled Young Souls, takes place in Kingly Court‘s Youth Club from July 21 until August 4.

Explaining the concept behind his self-funded project, Chalkley said: “I didn’t set out to create the definitive story of Northern Soul, but I did aim to celebrate it. The photographic aspect is a study focusing on the current burgeoning generation of young people getting into the scene, whereas the film brings the atmosphere and wonder of Northern Soul to life.”

Dean Chalkley directed, produced and wrote the short film Young Souls.

In the past he has held exhibitions partly inspired by Paul Weller. For more information on the exhibition and short film head to Deanchalkley.com.

For NME he has shot everyone from The Strokes and The White Stripes to Oasis.
